Apple trademarks its spaceship headquarters for augmented reality tours | iMore

Apple appears to have filed a figurative trademark for its Apple Park headquarters for the purposes of conducting augmented reality tours of the premises.

As noted by Patently Apple:

Apple Park is the corporate headquarters of Apple Inc., located in Cupertino, California. It was opened to employees in April 2017. Apple has now filed for the “figurative” trademark for Apple Park as presented further below in our report. Interestingly Apple’s trademark classification uniquely covers “conducting tours of corporate headquarters by means of augmented reality.”

Apple states the trademark is for the purposes of education, training, computer education, computer software, consumer electronics, and “conducting tours of corporate headquarters by means of augmented reality.”

The news comes as rumors continue to swirl of an impending Apple VR headset that the company may announce later this year.

According to multiple reports, Apple is developing a mixed reality headset capable of both AR and VR. Noted insider Ming-Chi Kuo tipped the headset for a launch in late 2022 and power akin to that of Apple’s M1 Mac chip. Other reports claim the headset could have two 8K displays and an eye-watering $3,000 price tag. Mark Gurman has previously stated that it will cost much more than current competing headsets in the $300-$900 range.

Apple’s new trademark could indicate plans to let customers tour its campus as part of the Apple AR/VR experience, or it could indicate a new reality experience the company is hoping to launch on-site at its Apple Park Campus.
